- South Carolina
Vacation...
|
|
We vacationed in the Carolinas this
summer, stopping first in North
Carolina to visit our good friends the Riverons
and then driving down to Charleston, South Carolina and Kiawah
Island for the second half of our
trip.
Many thanks to our friends Jon and Jayne
Roddy for inviting us to join them, the Reids and Julie at a
wonderful vacation home on beautiful Kiawah
Island

Arriving at the vacation house on Kiawah
Island, a quick trip to the beach and some early evening fishing...

We drove into Charleston for the day
where we visited historic downtown and then ventured to the famous
Magnolia
Gardens rice plantation...

- We stopped in the Old Slave Mart Museum
for a fascinating and sad look back at Charleston's slave trade
history.

- The Magnolia
Gardens plantation home...

- Preserved Slave Dwellings which were
still in use late inton the 20 century by free decesdents of
original slaves who stayed with the planation to work as gardeners.
The head gardner to this day is descended from a slave who was
loyal to the original owning Drayton family.

Riding our bikes to the Kiawah Island
pool...

Fishing at various Kiawah Island ponds
and taking in the various water fowl and, of course, the alligators...

Images of the kids having fun at the

A night out in downtown Charelston...

Visiting Bohicket
Marina where on our last day we caught
the weigh-ins from a deap sea fishing tournament...
